Thirlmere Reservoir Swirls South

This year’s sponsored walk will be up Helvellyn in the beautiful Lake District. Helvellyn is the 3rd highest peak in the Lake District and one of the most accessible. We will be walking up a dog safe route taking 9.3 miles, ascent to 1,100 metres. The first 3 miles of this route are relatively flat going through woods and fields and are suitable for most walkers. This route does not take us onto Striding Edge (which is unsuitable for dogs or less experienced hikers).
We will meet from 10 am and start at 10.30 am at Swirls car park, Thirlmere, Keswick, CA12 4TW which has toilet facilities. It is a National Trust car park so the daily charge is now £8.
After the walk, we will be going to eat at The Kings Head Inn, just off the A591, Thirlmere, CA12 4TN.
If you’d like to join us and walk for all or part of the way, please ensure that you wear hiking boots, take layers of clothing, including a waterproof jacket/trousers, water, food and any medicines you may need. Weather on the fells can suddenly change. Please read this guidance – What to wear and take on a walk : Lake District National Park
The walk takes around 5 hours for someone with good fitness. We will be walking at a gentle pace, and everyone is free to stop whenever they wish. Dogs are welcome on the walk, and again please judge the walk based on your dog’s ability as well as your own. There are sheep on the fells so dogs will need to be on lead. The charity does not take responsibility for participating in the event and asks that everyone carefully considers their own and their dogs’ safety and welfare.
Please email us for a sponsorship form at [email protected] We also have JustGiving
