Many have lived there for years; some, all their lives. Luckier than the local strays who are poisoned or tortured on the streets, the shelter dogs are well fed, loved by the volunteers and have access to veterinary care. But their quality of life is limited. They exist in outdoor pens with basic shelter and very few opportunities for enrichment or exercise. The shelter receives basic food provisions but no money towards running costs and now, after years of surviving on tiny donations, goodwill and hope, the shelter is in dire need of essential maintenance. At Saving Saints Rescue, we are committed to helping with an ambitious £5K fundraising and renovation campaign that we would love you to be a part of.THE DOGS AT HAPPY TAILS SHELTER NEED OUR HELP
Run entirely by volunteers, Happy Tails shelter in Nafpatkos, Greece is home to over a hundred rescued dogs.

FIX A FENCE APRIL
It all kicks off in the first week of April, when our Saving Saints’ trustees and a small group of UK volunteers arrive in Nafpaktos; spades, shovels and sweat at the ready to carry out emergency repairs to the weather-beaten fences and kennels. We urgently need to fix what's broken to make the shelter a more comfortable, safer place for the dogs.
To apply to become a volunteer or to simply find out more about our Fix a Fence April mission, email us to arrange a chat. If you have joinery or building skills we would especially love to hear from you! And you can always help us reach our £5k fundraising target by clicking on the donate button, giving what you can, referencing Happy Tails Shelter.
But Fix a Fence April is just the start of the story. We are in this for the long-term and we are thinking BIG!
THE BIG IDEA
In the long term we want to do more than just fix what is broken. We want to help the selfless volunteers at Happy Tails Shelter get more dogs adopted and perhaps rethink the shelter design in a way that dramatically improves the facilities and the dogs' quality of life.
Our plan is to work with Nafpatkos MunicipaIity and with our partners at Starlight Barking to make this happen.

ADOPT A HAPPY TAIL
Alongside the fundraising, we will be relentlessly promoting Happy Tails’ dogs for adoption in the hope of finding them their ‘happy ever afters’ and reducing pressure on resources and the dogs that remain. Please consider fostering or adopting from Happy Tails Shelter today! There are so many loving dogs in desperate need, waiting patiently to make your life better.
Here is a selection of the dogs that could make your day.
A DOG LOVER’S TOWN
Once the shelter is made safe for the Summer, we plan to promote the beautiful, medieval port of Nafpaktos as a destination of choice for dog friendly tourists. On offer, as part of the authentic traveller experience, will be opportunities to visit the shelter, meet the amazing dogs and even volunteer; fixing fences, walking, feeding, whatever floats your boat!
The long term ambition is to keep the interest and the fundraising and the renovation efforts going, continuing to make the world a better place for these dogs.
